As the internet becomes more and more crowded, it becomes harder and harder to find a new audience, which in turn makes it more difficult to reach the goals that you set when you first started blogging or optimizing your website.

This doesn’t mean that you have to stop posting content, though. You can adapt to the changing face of the internet, improving your SEO and growing your audience with these tips for the future of blogging and seo.

The future of blogging

The Internet has changed so much over time. Some changes have become more welcome than others, but with all things, there’s an initial resistance to change.

However, it’s important for bloggers to keep up with today’s latest developments in order to not be left behind as technology evolves. The future will continue to bring many exciting new blogging features and trends that will encourage creativity among bloggers—and hopefully encourage new generations of content creators.

How often will people blog?

How often will people be blogging in? How will it change over time? These are questions we can’t know for sure. What we do know is that blogging has changed drastically since its beginnings in 1997.

Even in 2022, with more than 60 million blogs around the world, there are room for growth. Here’s what we think In 2014, 1 out of every 10 Internet users will start a new personal or business blog—that’s a huge number.

There are so many options available to users that they can now choose exactly how they want to publish their content online. Do you want to post your own unique photos on Instagram? Write articles on LinkedIn Pulse? Create a video on YouTube or Vimeo? You have complete control.

What’s next for content marketing?

Content marketing has exploded in popularity over recent years. But now we’re entering an interesting time for content marketing—with a bunch of new opportunities being created, it’s worth considering how it’ll develop in years to come.

Mobile vs Desktop Traffic

Today, roughly half of all traffic to sites comes from mobile devices. If you’re not yet optimizing your content for these screens, it’s time to get started. If you aren’t already familiar with responsive design, now is a good time to learn.

When done well, responsive design will make your site look great regardless of screen size—saving you money and development time in the process.

What about social media in 2018?

According to Hubspot, in 2017, more than 40% of consumers used Facebook for business. When people land on your website from social media, they’re much more likely to engage with you on your content. Include a direct call-to-action at the end of every post or other type of content that encourages people to take further action.

Keyword density in Google search results

With Panda’s link-based penalties, keyword density is not as important as it used to be. However, some people still keep an eye on their keyword density when writing for Google.

If you are one of those people, make sure that you don’t go too far in your attempts to optimize for search engines: Aim for 1%-3% total density (including single words and phrases) throughout your post. Too much can hurt you—and possibly trigger another round of Panda updates from Google.

Keyword effectiveness over time

I’m sure you’ve heard stories about bloggers who have gotten massive traffic spikes in a short amount of time. How did they do it? Well, my friends, there is only one way to create such traffic growth—keyword effectiveness over time (KETO). By monitoring your ranking across all major search engines, looking at competitor rankings and increasing your backlinks, you can ensure that your site stays at its peak performance.
